Living Realty is an established real estate brokerage headquartered in Markham with growing online needs. Their website was out-dated and was not meeting their client’s or staff needs. Living Realty needed a responsive website that could attract new hires and new clients and direct users to important information in an elegant & user-friendly manner.
I had three working sessions with the team at Living to determine the user personas for the new site and clearly identify their goals and needs as well as the client’s business goals and objectives.
Once a strategy was in place I started to design the new information architecture and create a fully interactive prototype based on the research. The working prototype allowed us to test the UX with a sample of users. We used the feedback from those users to refine the prototype and to use this final working wireframes and prototype as a guide and basis for further design and development work. Our final working prototype behaved very similarly to the actual site as far as transitions, link behaviors, interactive feedback were concerned.
We started the design process by exploring various typographic hierarchies and treatment options. By establishing the typographic hierarchy we were effectively establishing the ecosystem of how content was to be presented, ie what a headline, paragraph, bullet points, etc could look like.
At this time we also set out to establish the colour harmonies and hex relationships that could define the new site. In other words, we established the various building blocks of the new visual language from the ground up. With so many smart devices it makes sense to design systems that can adapt to any screen size rather designing individual pages.
Once these building blocks were established we could then arrange them according to the layouts created in the prototypes in UX phase to establish the finished design.
I managed the WordPress development process and ensured that production was smooth and that the right team was in place. We started the web development process as soon as the style guide was approved while we were still working on the page mock-ups. This sped up the development process considerably and allowed us to focus on content creation and the finalizing of the mock-ups.
After the user interface designs and prototypes were approved we proceeded to create interactive front-end code from those designs using custom HTML/CSS & Javascript. At this stage, we will build the aesthetics established in the design stage and translate the approved creative designs into a responsive web format that worked across all modern browsers and devices. Javascript and Jquery were used to create smooth animations and transitions that were fast loading and compatible with smart devices.
Once we had the approval of the page designs we started prepping the files using Sketch app and Invision which are our preferred tools for creating pixel-perfect designs and final interactive filed which match our creative vision perfectly.
We customized integration with TERB MLS listings. The client was able to display MLS lisitngs in real-time and also showcase their exclusive listings as well.
